TUCSON — The Muppet Meet was recently held in the Foothills at Fort Lowell Park. Each year, organizers try to come up with an original theme that will be interesting to small children. For the past two years, the tee shirt design has been done via a contest by the children. The winner gets a $25 gift certificate to Toys-R-Us.
Heat winners are given awards. Beyond Bread, Patio Pool and Eegees were original sponsors and have remained every year. Beyond Bread supplies large gift certificates each year and the kids really race to get them. There were 328 swimmers and 24 teams in the meet this year, up from about 160 swimmers the first year. This year La Paloma, Pusch Ridge, Skyline Bel Air, Ventana, Northwest YMCA, La Mariposa, Tucson country club and Flying Fish were the Foothills area teams that participated.
