Falcon girls win cross country invitational

Falcons Hanna Wehtzel finished fifth at the Ray Wherley Invitational.

TUCSON — The Falcon girls participated in the Ray Wherley Invitational on September 10. The Falcon girls won the seeded 2.5 mile race with an average time of 18:28.66, nearly a minute faster on average than Mountain Ridge.

The Falcons’ Maya Collier finished second, 25 seconds behind the race winner, Mykala Seresun of Sedona.

Fellow Falcons Hanna Wehtzel and Bailey Welliver were fifth and sixth, while Anza Wiedenkeller was 11th. Autumn Brown and Alessandra Vanasco were 14th and 15th.

The Falcons had four runners finish in the top-10 of the open division race, led by Eliza Peterson who won the race in 19:30.65

Foothills’ Victoria Sullivan and Ellen Green finished third and fourth, while Sam Garn was ninth.

The Falcon girls have won three regular season meets, while the boys took two of three. The girls opened the season with an 18-33 win over Ironwood Ride thanks to claiming the top three spots, led by Wiedenkeller.

Whetzel also won a race, while seven Falcon runners finished in the top-10.
